What is Believers Baptism?

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)

Before Jesus ascended to Heaven he commanded his followers to make disciples and then baptize them. This is known as Believers Baptism.  One of the greatest privileges we have as a church is baptize believers.  There is nothing about baptism that saves you, but instead it is the opportunity to declare before everyone that you are follower of Jesus. It is a special day in the life of a believer.
A couple of questions we get about baptism:
Why do you have to get go under the water?
Believers Baptism is done differently depending on the church. We baptize by immersion (going under the water) for several reasons:
  1.  Baptism represents burial and rising as a new creation able to honor God. Romans 6:3-6
  2. Jesus was baptized by immersion by John the Baptist. Matthew 3:16
  3. The Bible only has examples of immersion as the way the Apostles baptized.  Acts 8:26-40
Who should get baptized?
Believers baptism is a step of submission to  Jesus. If you have you made a decision to accept the sacrifice Jesus gave on the cross for then forgiveness of your sins and not been baptized as a believer. You should get baptized as Jesus commanded.
